After the Ming Dynasty, hanging screens appeared, which exceeded the practicality of screens and became pure decorations.

It can be divided into seat screens and surrounding screens.

Seat screen: It consists of two parts: the insert screen and the base. The interstitial screen is removable, with hardwood as the frame, and a screen core in the middle. Most of the screen cores use lacquer carving, inlay, wool embroidery, painting, embroidery, glass decoration, etc. for surface decoration. The base plays a stabilizing role, the upright column is tightly restricted to insert the screen, the standing teeth stabilize the upright column, and the horizontal seat block bears the inset screen. In addition to functional needs, the base can also play a decorative role. Generally, linear and carvings are often applied to echo the interstitial. According to the number of interstitial screens, the seat screens are divided into single fan (interstitial type), three fans (mountain type) and five fans. In addition, there is also a small screen that is placed on the table and case as a furnishing. Its form is exactly the same as that of a single-fan seat screen, also called an inkstone screen or a table screen.

Surrounding screen: It is composed of even-numbered screen fans and can be folded. Generally, the number of fans is 4, 6, 8 fans, up to 12 fans. In order to stand stable, the screen fan is usually placed on the ground in a zigzag shape. The surrounding screen is composed of a screen frame and a screen core. There are also plate-shaped surrounding screens without a screen frame, and each fan is connected by a screen hinge. In addition to traditional wood and bamboo screen frames, modern screens also use metal and aluminum alloys as the frame. The screen core is mostly made of nylon, leather, plastic, colored silk and other materials, which has the characteristics of freshness and simplicity.
