Weathering Resistance Principle

The corrosion resistance mechanism of weathering steel originates from the dense oxide layer that forms on its surface. Under natural climatic conditions, alloying elements (copper, chromium, nickel, etc.) in steel promote the formation of a dense oxide film approximately 50-100 μm thick between the rust layer and the substrate. This film prevents further penetration of atmospheric oxygen and water, thus slowing the progression of corrosion.

1. First Use – Seasoning and Conditioning

Weathering steel baking pans require a seasoning process before first use to achieve optimal performance:

Step 1: Preheating on Low Heat: Maintain low heat for the first 25 minutes after adding the heat source to prevent heat deformation.

Step 2: Oiling and Conditioning: After preheating, evenly apply vegetable oil to the surface of the baking pan, allowing the oil to "burn" into the pan. It is recommended to use a high smoke point vegetable oil.

Step 3: Setting: After 1-2 uses, the baking pan will reach its optimal performance, forming a naturally non-stick surface.

2. Daily Cleaning

No Excessive Cleaning Required: Weathering steel grills do not require frequent cleaning like stainless steel grills. Cooking oil and food residue can be scraped into the fire with a spatula after use.

Simple Wiping: If cleaning is necessary, simply wipe the surface of the baking pan with a damp cloth before the next use.

Avoid Detergents: It is not recommended to use detergents such as dish soap, as they may damage the oil film formed during the seasoning process.
