Product Introduction
The advantage of weathering steel compared to ordinary steel is the corrosion resistance. When being exposed to the optimal atmospheric conditions, an even patina or oxide layer is formed, and it helps prevent water and oxygen from penetrating into the steel surface. In ordinary steel, the oxide layer is inhomogeneous and easy to detach from the base material. Rust gradually proceeds into the subsurface as fractures and pores occurs. In comparison, the alloying elements of weathering steel when getting in contact with the relevant elements in the atmosphere (H2O, O2, SO2) will form a more uniform and compact oxide layer (FeOOH) on the surface of weathering steel in a few years. This protective oxide layer in turn will resist further corrosion in the future.
