Corten Steel Grade A588 exhibits superior corrosion resistance over regular carbon steel due to the protective oxide film on the metals surface which slows down further corrosion and is therefore, widely used at construction sites to reinforce building structures. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of A588 Grade A steel in most environments is significantly better than that of carbon structural steels with or without copper addition. When appropriately exposed to the atmosphere, A588 Grade A steel is suitable for many applications in bare unpainted condition.
