A proper flame ,The flame on the pellet stove must be very hot - but not too hot. Low-burning, shimmering orange flames (called "inert" flames) are not hot enough to be used efficiently. Lazy flames usually have black tips or emit dark black smoke. This flame requires more air to make the pellet furnace efficient. A bright white or blue flame is too hot and burns too intensely for a pellet furnace. The flame receives too much air and needs to be reduced. To burn efficiently, pellet furnaces need the right combination of fuel and air. Use temperature control to adjust the amount of fuel and air through the damper. Whenever the fuel amount is adjusted, the damper should be adjusted accordingly to maintain a proper flame. The temperature increase should include increasing the amount of air circulating to the fire or opening the damper wider. The reduction in temperature should include a reduction in the amount of air, or a slight closure of the damper to accommodate the reduction in flame. Maintaining a balance between air and fuel will ensure proper, effective pellet furnace flame.
