Like the larger single-furnace models, the double-walled design produces a large, bright flame with virtually no smoke, while generating amazing heat. In our testing, we boiled a quart of water in less than 10 minutes, so we thought it would be a good choice for brewing coffee or making pasta and soup in remote areas. However, the lack of thermal mass may limit its use in more temperature-sensitive formulations. Particle fire pits were new to our test team, so we were pleasantly surprised by how easy they were to use. We put a 2" thick layer of wood pellets in the fire pit, applied an ounce or so of charcoal lighter fluid, and ignited the wood pellets in several places. After about a minute, the surface was covered in flames, and after a few minutes, the flames reached about 18 inches above the pit and began a second burn. The burn continued for about 40 minutes, leaving a thin layer of glowing embers. Within an hour, almost all materials in the room had been burne.
