Pit Burner
Gas oozes out of fireproof glass/lava and will only ignite if it spills from the top, so be at least 1-1/4 "above the burner, not close to it like a gas stove burner. Gases find their way through the fire pit media to create a larger and more natural random flame footprint. If the gas ignites right next to the burner, it will create hot spots and warping that will eventually damage the burner and need to be replaced. It could even burn holes in the burners, which would become dangerous.

Product Introduction
What size burner should I choose?
Choosing the right size burner is the most important part of your project. All burners have a Btu rating, which tells us how much heat they generate and how much gas they consume.
Direction:
A typical propane patio heater produces about 45,000 BTU of heat.
A 6 "diameter pit burner is rated at 80,000 Btu
A 12 "diameter burner is rated at 92,000 Btu. (Based on American fireglass burners).
In order to get the best flame from any size burner, you need to match the Btu rating of the burner to the available Btu from your gas source.
